I will show and help you on how to activate Starlink in Zambia that is step by step, including information on the current prices for the Starlink Mini and Standard Gen-3 kits, plus monthly plan costs in our Zambian Kwacha.

Activating Starlink in Zambia is fairly straightforward be it you are in Kasama or Chavuma or Kitwe, but it helps to know a few things beforehand. You need to know the costs, the plan options, and a few local quirks. eg Starlink supports payment only through bank card system and some bank cards dont work like the Airtel AM Global Pay Card

Once you get your Starlink kit delivered, you’ll use the Starlink app to power up the terminal, align it, and register your location — the app guides you step by step. Within minutes, your dish should lock on to satellites, and once activation is confirmed, you’re online.

Pricing & Plans (Zambia)
In Zambia, Starlink offers two main residential service-plans: Residential Lite and Residential (Priority). According to Starlink website, the Lite plan costs K 800/month, while the standard Residential plan is K 1,160/month. Here are a few things you need to note.

  • The Lite option is unlimited data but gets deprioritized when the network is congested.
  • The Residential (Priority) plan gives you better priority but costs more.

For hardware:

  • The Starlink Mini kit is listed by Zambian distributors at about K 5,800.
  • For the Gen 3 (standard) Starlink kit, Lensesview reports a hardware price of around K 8,980.

Importantly, the Mini kit cannot access the Priority data plan — so if you choose the Mini, you’ll be limited to the Lite plan at K 800/month.

What to Expect During Starlink Activation in Zambia

1. Start With the Hardware

Unbox your kit, take note of the KIT or serial number and pick a spot with a wide view of the sky. The Mini is more forgiving since you can mount it just about anywhere, but Gen 3 prefers a clear rooftop or yard. After plugging in, connect your phone to the “STARLINK” Wi-Fi network.

2. Fire Up the Starlink App

Download the Starlink app from Google Play or the App Store. This is your command center — it checks for obstructions, helps position the dish, and handles the entire activation flow.

3. Create or Log In to Your Starlink Account

In the app, input your terminal ID and confirm your service address. Zambia’s map is fully supported, so no more VPN tricks of the early days.

4. Choose Your Service Plan (ZMW)

Here’s where most people get confused, so let’s simplify it:

  • Residential Lite – K800/month
Unlimited usage but deprioritized during peak congestion.
  • Residential – K1,160/month
    Better performance, higher priority.

Important: The Starlink Mini does not support Priority plans. You’ll be limited to Residential Lite (K800) or Residential (K1,160), depending on availability. If you need business plan ensure you obtain Gen 3 Kit and subcription options are set to priority

5. Hardware Prices in Zambia

Current local pricing stands at:

  • Mini Kit – around K5,250
  • Standard Gen-3 Kit – K8,980

These prices may shift depending on stock and shipping, but they’re the ballpark figures across distributors.

6. Final Activation

Once you submit payment, the system activates in minutes. The dish aligns automatically, and the app will flip to “Online.” Run a quick speed test, and you’re live.

Things to Watch Out For

  • Because the Lite plan is deprioritized, speeds may drop during peak times.
  • The Mini’s portability is great, but budget accordingly — since you can’t use the Priority plan, the Lite option may not offer the best performance under heavy use.
  • Make sure your payment method is compatible with Starlink’s Zambia portal to avoid activation issues. Watch out for Airtel mastercard, also watch out your card is not limited to only ATM transactions.
