Tumblr Disses-Removes Porn On Its Social Media

According to Tumblr ‘adult content primarily includes images and videos that show real-life human genitals or female-presenting nipples, and any content—including photos, videos, GIFs and illustrations—that depicts sex acts.’

What is Tumblr? Tumblr was founded 12 years ago in 2007 by David Karp and is currently owned by Verizon of USA.

Its a micro blogging social networking service similar to Facebook or the now defunct Google+.

The Tumblr service allows users to post multimedia and other content to a short-form blog. Users can follow other users’ blogs. Bloggers can also make their blogs private.

With a record of over 450 million blogs toward the end of December 2018 and a monthly visit of over 500 million in 2013 Tumblr was positioned for assorted use of social media and divergent activities.

Despite its early growth and millions of users Tumblr does not attract a large following in Zambia. Most of its adopters are American teenagers and European with Asian users.

But at its highest point, technology journalist noticed that Tumblr had a sizable amount of pornography material.

A report published by TechCrunch in May 2013 revealed that 22% of traffic entering and leaving Tumblr was classified as pornography.

Is adult content allowed on Tumblr?

From the time it was acquired by Yahoo and in July 2013 Tumblr begun to filter pornographic material. Site tagged with pornography were blocked from appearing in its search.

And on 3rd December 2018 now run by Verizon Tumblr announced that effective 17th December all content prescribed as porn was to be removed. As a result Tumblr begun to inform its users;

“adult content is not allowed on Tumblr, regardless of how old you are. You can read more about what kinds of content are not allowed on Tumblr in our Community Guidelines. “

Further, users were encouraged to report “if they spot a post that they didn’t think belonged on Tumblr.

Tumblr has not revealed how many monthly active users it has, but Kafka says a source familiar with the company tells him that it probably has 30-50 million active users.

That’s a significant drop from the 300 million monthly uniques according to businessinsider.

For years a large community of users fed on the database of gifs exploring sexual intimacy of same sex. Images sensous to the real life of homosexuality and unisex extolled on the platform.

But on good news on the Apple Store is Tumblr was back. Tumblr was booted out of the App Store after featuring child pornography that passed through its filtering app.
